The Boat Trip

Today we did the best boat trip ever, it was amazing, we set off at the river mouth and headed deeper into the river. We started off hugging the mangrove tree's and then we saw it, we saw the thing that we were waiting to see the most. A crocodile. Only a baby but it was still very fascinating, we could only see part of it's head and back but it was still amazing though. We also saw a few rare tropical birds, one of them was a blue heron they looked amazing. I read on the tinternet that they stop in shallow water, then stab their prey in the back with their beak. We also saw a king fisher, it looked like it had some kind of spikes on the top of it's head, and it had very sharp and agile movements, it looked amazing. Then we started to go down some narrow parts of the river, that was when we saw about four crocodiles, one of them was quite large, but then the guide spotted a tiny crocodile, it was half in the murky water and half out, we were all amazed how the guide had even spotted it. It was the size of a puppy, no joke, we were nearly back. But then we saw a massive crock on the side, it had it's jaw wide open as some kind of territory threat.

But anyway hope you are all okay, tomorrow we are renting a small 4x4 and heading down to Santa Teresa, anyway chow chow!

  2. Beutifully told Sam. Your writing is coming on a treat. Sorry about the ear infection but a week out of the water won't do you any harm and it will give you the opportunity to get stuck in to Harry Potter. Sounds too as if the journey to Santa Teresa might be fun. Enjoy.

  3. As you said Sam A MAZING( lots of times) !! Not exactly my scene, but I imagine thrilling to be so close. The blue heron appears to have a particularly viscous method of making a meal, perhaps he could open a food chain named Stab & Grab!! I wonder if that is where we get the saying from being stabbed in the back? probably not - you could find out. Wavesurfer Grandad says - sound as if you are having an Amazing (again) time. Seeing the crocodile with it's mouth open reminds me, tell your mum not to forget to go to the dentist! On towards Santa Teresa in 4x4 should make for a good trip, at least if you should encounter floods again (scary) hopefully, you will be high up enough to get through. Enjoy the ride. It is warm here for October and the trees are still pretty well covered. We will be finishing at Moreton in 3 weeks -yes- can't wait. All the children are well. Dex has moved up a level in reading. At home he is reading Roald Dahl's The Twits - Aunty Lauren hopes he doesn't get any ideas that way, it doesn't take much as you know! The twin boys have had their hair cut, it is shorter than yours, they look 'proper grown up'! Henri sends her love and so do we love you on to Santa Teresa.....

  4. Sounds Amazing!!! If Tarzan was with you he would have wrestled the big one and made slippers out of the skin; do not try this yourself.
Was the heron blue because he was cold!!! Take good care of yourself!!

  5. Hi Sam

Uncle Al and I love reading your blogs. Your English is really good and you make it really exciting. We are so jealous of you being on this trip so we have planned a few trips of our own. We are going to California on Friday.

Alfie had a fungal ear infection recently too! We had to clean his ear with a cleaner and cotton wool and then put drops in and he hated it!

We are going to Mexico in February and then we will almost definately see you in Bali in the summer.

    Love Jess and Al
